Who is the new commander of the NATO HQ in Sarajevo?
On 9th June in the Butmir Camp in Sarajevo, Brigadier General David Enyeart took over the duty of the Sarajevo-based NATO HQ commander from Brigadier General John Bullard. The transfer was held by the commander of the NATO South Wing from Naples, Admiral Mark Fitzgerald.
“The NATO HQ in Sarajevo welcomes the progress BiH has achieved in defense and security reform. Deployment of your man to Afghanistan, the agreement to destroy the surplus of ammunition, weapons and explosive devices, as well as the beginning of creation of the Defense Review, which will enable the BiH Ministry of Defense and the Bih Armed Forces to harmonize their resources and capacities in order to be able to invest in training and modernization of equipment – all these things confirm the continuing progress”, said General Bullard.
The new commander General Enyeart said that only a team work and a spirit of the institutions of BiH and the international community could ensure quick progress and safe integration to NATO.
“No one can achieve the goal of BiH becoming a NATO member on its own, because it requires a continued teamwork of the whole community”, stated Enyeart.
Brigadier General David Enyeart was the Assistant Adjutant General - Army, Oregon National Guard. An Adjutant General is a military chief administrative officer. He was also the Deputy Commanding General - Army National Guard, United States Army Maneuver Support Center. Brigadier General Enyeart assumed his duties as the Assistant Adjutant General -Army, Oregon National Guard on March 8, 2008.
General Enyeart also served as the Deputy Commander for Joint Force Headquarters with command and control responsibility for the Headquarters Detachment, Oregon State Defense Force, Camp Rilea Training Site Command, 249th Regional Training Institute and separate units assigned to Joint Force Headquarters. He was responsible for the mobilization readiness in Joint Force Headquarters, including Joint Force Headquarters support of home station mobilization.
General Enyeart received his commission through Officer Candidate School on June 29, 1985. Prior to this assignment, he served as the Brigade Commander, 41st Infantry Brigade Combat Team and as Deputy Commander for Task Force Phoenix V.
Brigadier General Enyeart served from June 1985 - August 1989 as a Mortar Platoon Leader, A/2-162nd Infantry Battalion, Eugene, Oregon. From September 1989 until April 1990, he was the Executive Officer of Company A, 162nd Infantry Battalion, Oregon. In May 1990, he was promoted to Commander of Company A, 2-162nd Infantry Battalion, Eugene, Oregon and served in that capacity until February 1994.
From March 1994 until February 1995, General Enyeart was the S2, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2-162nd Infantry Battalion. Eugene, Oregon and From March 1995 until June 1995 he was the Assistant S3, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 41st Infantry Brigade, Portland, Oregon. In July 1995, he moved to the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2-162nd Infantry Battalion, Eugene, Oregon.
In August 1998, General Enyeart was promoted to Company Commander, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 162nd Infantry Battalion, Eugene, Oregon. He served as Company Commander until September 2001 when he was made the Brigade S3 for the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 41st Infantry Brigade, Portland Oregon. From August 2002 until May 2004, General Enyeart was the Executive Officer, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 41st Infantry Brigade, Portland, Oregon.
Two times in Afghanistan
General Enyeart deployed to Afghanistan in June 2004. He served as the Deputy Commander, 41st Infantry Brigade (Forward), Afghanistan, until August, 2005. Following one-year service in Afghanistan, he returned to the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 41st Infantry Brigade, Portland, Oregon and took up the position of Executive Officer until December, 2005.
Deploying for a second tour in Afghanistan in January 2007, General Enyeart was the Deputy Commander, 41st Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Forward), Afghanistan until July 2007.
General Enyeart was promoted to Commander 41st Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Portland, Oregon in August 2007. He held the position until February 2008, when he assumed the duty of the Assistant Adjutant General - Army, Joint Force Headquarters, Salem, Oregon.
From July 2009 until the present, General Enyeart has been the Deputy Commanding General Army - National Guard, United States Army Maneuver Support Center.
General Enyeart graduated in 1995 from the University of Oregon with a Bachelor of Science degree, specializing in Psychology. In 2007, he received a Master’s of Science Degree from the United States Army War College, Strategic Studies, Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania.
